~ AN "EVIDENCE-BASED" PROGRAM ~

Suffice it to say that becoming an evidence-based program requires a lot of time, patience, and resources.  It requires participation in oversight of program elements, an emphasis on discipline in gathering information, keeping good data on important factors for study, and use of good, reliable tools to achieve all of these.  NFIS and TFA have been working hard to be out in front of this research and the ability to provide reliable data that proves our programs' value to communities we serve.

For the entirety of its 15 year existence, NFIS has used a variety of tools to gather and analyze data in the important areas of family and child life.  From our current use of the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS), our detailed intake and assessment tools and demographics on family life, and a new tool developed by Kay Hodges on Childhood Protective Factors, NFIS is staying on the leading edge of this important movement within the social services.

For over thirty years, the Teaching Family Model has used a consistent and effective mode of care to children and families in a variety of settings throughout North America.  Organized studies carried out by individual professionals and university research groups have now shown that the Teaching Family Model has been declared to be based on real evidence by two important human services organizations: the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
